More Gigantic news!
Gigantic is on the cover of an upcoming issue of the digital art magazine Imagine FX. The cover was dual painted by Devon and me. It was an interesting process. I've never actually collaborated with someone on a piece of artwork but it was pretty fun, so I see no reason not to do more art-collaborations in the future! Emily and I have painted on each others paintings from time to time, and we've also helped each other out with drawings but those are more like un-official collaborations.
Anyways here's the cover! It definitely exceeded the quota for the number of characters on an IFX cover! (Usually they just have one character per cover.)
Tyto, Voden, and Knossos get ready to battle their most
fearsome foe... cover copy.
After the issue is actually out I'll get permission to post some process stuff and post the cover without the text.
There's also a "how we design a hero on Gigantic" workshop in the issue. I tried to put into words the interesting and collaborative design process at Motiga, using the elite sniper, Imani, as an example. I'd love to elaborate on this further but for now this is a nice peek into our process! Here's a really lo-res pic of that workshop... gotta get the issue if you want to read it!

Just a quick heads up, I'm featured in a new book coming out in October from 3D Total. It's called sketching from the Imagination and it looks super cool!
You can see a mini preview and a list of contributing artists. I'm really happy and honored to be in amongst some of my favorite artists in the industry. Especially Pat Ann and Larry MacDougall! (their sites are linked over on my link list) (Pat Ann is listed as P.A. Lewis)
Want to hear me yammer on and on about how we design heroes on Gigantic? Here ya go! Seriously though, I talked too much. One of my fellow team members should have slapped me!
If it wasn't clear in the video... I'm really proud of the team we have at Motiga. We're doing some really cool work and I can't wait to share more of it with you guys!
Also here's a fun video of player reactions to our game!
Well here's a career first! One of the characters I designed for Gigantic in the flesh!
The costumes were created by the cosplaying duo of Sweatshop202. They did a great job on Tripp including the added bonus of glowing daggers! Sweatshop202 also made a cool costume for Tyto the Swift, but I'll let Devon blog about that.

Glowing daggers!
Also sorry for the lack of fun sketches lately. I've been very busy doing lots of different art related nonsense. Much of it I can't show yet. I'll get back to posting random character sketches with not very funny but I think they're funny captions soon!
Just a quick heads up, Emily and I will have work at the AFRU Gallery in Portland this month. The show is entitled "Illustrator and Designer Appreciation" and it's associated with the Rose City Comic Con. (The AFRU Gallery is just a few blocks from the convention center)
I have three pieces in the show, two of which are for sale. The third is a personal piece that I have yet to properly feature on this blog, but I'll get to that soon. (you can see it on my website here though)
Here are the two "oldie but goody" dragon paintings for sale:
The galleries opening reception is Sept. 5th from 6pm till Midnight. Emily and I might not be able to make it out though, one of our pets is sick so we might be preoccupied with making him feel better.
But if your a Portland native or you'll be in town please go check out the show!
I'll be on two panels: From Concept to Completion: New Gigantic Heroes First Look! Friday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. PDT Come talk with Motiga concept and character artists as they reveal two never-before-seen Gigantic heroes, and they’ll walk you through the process of hero concept, design, creation, and implementation from start to finish. Live Drawing with Gigantic Artists! Monday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. PDT Motiga is home to some of the most talented artists in the industry, and this is your chance to meet them. Join us for some of the most fun you’ll have at this year’s PAX Prime, as our world-class artists run a live drawing clinic, mixing your suggestions with their talent to create something truly unique…and probably very weird! More info on the Gigantic Facebook and Twitter. See you there!
I started at Motiga in August of 2012, I believe I was their 12th or 13th hire. We're now at a whopping 65 people! From the beginning it's been an amazing process of making a game that I actually care about. The team is the best dev team I've been a part of in my 9 years in game development.
Check out the beautiful trailer we've put together:
(I'd watch it on YouTube with the highest res your computer can handle.)
You'll be hearing and seeing a lot more about Gigantic here. I've have been doing some of the best design work I've ever done with this team and I think it's resonating with people. All the comments have been extremely positive.
I share my character design duties with the very talented Devon Cady-Lee. He's the designer of that sharply dressed, owl-masked, sword wielder, Tyto the Swift. The also ever talented Katy Hargrove also chips in with character design from time to time. She designed that huggable but huge Griffon guardian in the video.
But I designed all the other characters in the video. (Benefits of being on a team from the beginning, I guess.) I hope you like them! Though Devon will soon surpass me with the speed at which he works.
Finally we have the awesome Lexxy Douglass doing all of our marketing art. She's responsible for the beautiful monochromatic stylized work seen on the website.
I'll post about all the other artists I work with soon. For now sign up for the alpha to play this amazing game! There's much more art to come!
Ingrid Musfargo, the dark one. Please don't confuse her with Ingrid MusFAYgo, the bringer of flowers and pancakes. She HATES that.
